Upper Mustang Trek (14 days walk)
Another amazing trek in Nepal is Upper Mustang Trek, completely different in terms of landscape, culture and people. This trek permits you to visit nearly all villages, ancient monasteries and caves. You can enjoy high peaks of above 8000m, Dhaulagiri, Annapurna and other several snow capped mountains above 6000 meters as well. Once upon a time, Mustang was a separate kingdom inside Nepal and they used to have direct relation with Tibet so Tibetan culture and Himalaya Buddhism is still alive in Mustang. This trek is suggested for those interested in Sociology / Anthropology and Archaeology as well. Tony Hagen, Guisepphi Tuucci, Michel Peissel were the well known European researcher who discovered Mustang, collected documents and wrote several books.
As the road to Tibetan boarder is already constructed, you can go up to Kora La ( 4660m) by Jeep, which is the highest point of the trek .
Two nights in Lo Manthang permits you to visit several monasteries, old royal palace and interact with people.
Tiji is the most popular festival, falls in May and celebrated for 3 days in Lo Manthang.
This trek is suitable and suggested for all who love walking several days, relatively tough as there are some long days. Best seasons for this trek is in between April to Beginning of November, even moon season.
Welcome at the airport and transfer to the hotel, walk around the city, Thamel and local market.
Swoyambhu : Buddhist stupa on the the hill, Patan : 2nd city with various pagoda style temples and old palace, Bugmati : beautiful cultural village of wood sculptors and Kathmandu Durbar square, city of temples with living goddess.
Drive Kathmandu - Pokhara by tourist bus (6-7hrs), walk along the Phewa lake and enjoy evening pray.
Short ( 20 minutes ) flight to Jomsom, over Kaligandaki gorge - deepest in the world as it is in between two giant mountains Annapurna and Dhaulagiri. Trek start (3 hrs), follow Kaligandaki (holy river ) to Kagbeni, village by the river, door to Upper Mustang. Visit village . Lodge on BLD
Follow Kaligandaki and easy walk to Tangbe, ancient village with Chortens and fields. Continue to Chhusang along the river. Check in the lodge, visit monastery and village. View of Annapurna and Nilgiri. Lodge on BLD
Cross river coming from Tetang village and continue upto Kaligandaki, cross river and walk up hill to Chele, another beautiful villages withh flat earthen roof. Continue to a pass of ( 3550m) and down to Samar, with few houses and popular for unique landscape. Lodge on BLD
One of the beautiful day of the trek, there is direct trail but we go down to Chungsi cave and monastery inside, amazing! Walk slightly steep to Syangbochen, on the hill with few lodges. We start having real feeling of altitude, should be careful. Lodge on BLD
Another beautiful day of the trek, walk to the village of Ghilling and continue to Ghemi, relatively large settlement and green fields. Stop for Lunch & continue to Dhakmar with red cliff on the backdrop. Lodge on BLD
Walk upto pass Mui La ( 4170m), several pray flags. Down to Ghar Gompa, one of the ancient monastery, possibly of 11th century. Follow the trail down to Tsarang, one of the important village of Upper Mustang after Lo Manthang, agriculture fields and monastery are the added charm of the village. Lodge on BLD
Start trek to our long awaited destination Lo Manthang, capital city of Mustang. We follow the large road to Tibetan boarder, road connects North to South of Nepal. Enjoy the wide valley and several pray walls and flags, last pass of 3950m before going down, view of Lo Manthang, fortified capital with wide walls. Several houses with narrow street and monasteries with wall paintings and statutes can make your visit forgettable . Lodge on BLD

The most spectacular day of the trek. Jeep to Choser, the last village before boarder, several monasteries inside cave. Kora La boarder, large valley, view of mountains. Lunch at local tea house and back to lodge. Lodge on BLD.
Walk upto the hill (4100m), we can enjoy the view of Lo Manthang, walk down to the village Dhee (3400m), village with green fields. Continue upto Yara, another amazing village with few lodges . Lodge on BLD .
Very few people (tourist) go to the monastery although very popular among locals. Once we are inside, we ask question ourself how was it possible to make a shrine inside with paintings? Enjoy the nature, wide valley and back to the lodge . Lodge on BLD .
Another beautiful day, trek in another side of Kaligandaki, wide valley, several pray flags and mani walls, real feeling of plateau and sometimes windy. Tanggye is a village of farmers with sheep and goats. Lodge on BLD
This is the tough day of the trek as long walk day and no villages on the way, should take enough water and pack lunch. But the view is splendid, different colors of soils and rocks. Snow mountains are just in front of you. Tetang was multi colored chorten. Lodge on BLD .
Just walk an hour to reach Chhusang and we come to our trail to Lomanth. Continue to Jomsom, again Kaligadaki, known as windy valley too. Lodge on BLD .
Possible to go to Muktinath (3800m) holy temple, by crossing the pass ( 4050m) and take a Jeep to Jomsom on the same day.
