Helambu is known for its beautiful villages and serene nature. It is easily accessible by road from Kathmandu, making it perfect for a short trek. Along the way, you will enjoy stunning views of the high Himalayan ranges. Moreover, you can immerse yourself in the rich culture of the Sherpa and Tamang communities. This trek combines cultural exploration with adventure, especially with the optional climb to Yangri Peak (3771m).

Itinerary for Helembu Valley & Ama Yangri Peak Trek
Welcome at the airport and transfer to the hotel. Later, you can walk around the city, explore Thamel, and visit the local market.
After breakfast, drive to Sundarijal via Boudhanath and stop for a short tour. The drive takes about 1.5 hours. Sundarijal is the starting point of the trek and provides drinking water for Kathmandu Valley. From here, walk uphill to Mulkharka (1855m) and continue through various villages and forests. You will reach Borlang Bhanjyang (2472m), the highest point today, inside Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park. Then, descend to Chisapani, which means cold water. The village offers Himalayan views, but it can be windy and cold compared to Kathmandu. Overnight at lodge (BLD).
Enjoy a beautiful sunrise before starting the trek. Walk downhill through several villages and fields to Thankune Bhanjyang. Then, follow an up-and-down trail to Thotun Danda (2469m) and continue to Gul Bhanjyang. This village has more houses and a mixed Hindu-Buddhist community. Overnight at lodge (BLD).
Today’s trail passes through rhododendron, oak, and Himalayan pine forests up to Kutumsang (2470m). This village is dominated by the Tamang community and offers panoramic views of Langtang Lirung, Ganesh Himal, Dorjee Lakpa, and other peaks. Continue uphill to Mangengoth for views of Helambu Valley, villages, and the Himalayas. Overnight at lodge (BLD).
After breakfast, walk uphill to Tharepati (3500m), a popular stop for trekkers coming from Gosaikunda Lake. Enjoy splendid views of the Himalayas and the valley. Then, descend 1000m to Melemchi Gaon. People here are called Helmo and are primarily Buddhist. Walk around the village. Overnight at lodge (BLD).
This is a relatively easy and beautiful day. You will cross forests, fields, and several small villages, interacting with the Sherpa community known for mountain climbing. Tarkeyghyang, meaning “monastery,” has an ancient Buddhist monastery with wall paintings. Overnight at lodge (BLD).
Today is an exciting day. Wake up early and ascend to Ama Yangri, the highest point of this trek. This mountain is holy to locals, considered a protector goddess by Sherpa and Tamang communities. Anyone in good physical condition can complete this climb in the morning. You will enjoy 360-degree views from the top. Overnight at lodge (BLD).
Enjoy sunrise and breakfast in the mountains. Afterwards, catch a local jeep back to Kathmandu. Say goodbye to the trekking staff. Service ends. Overnight at the hotel (BLD).
